Here is an amazing guilt free Paleo Apple Pie Turnover that has the most amazing crust you will ever try! You can use this crust for pies and savory things as well:) This recipe is sugar free, gluten free, very high fiber, easily digestible, anti-inflammatory, and full of flavor you won’t want anything else!
Turnover Crust Includes:
1 1/3c Arrowroot powder
1c Almond Flour
Several shakes of sea salt
2 Pinches of cinnamon
6 Teaspoons Xylitol
2 Teaspoons Truvia
1/2c Organic butter
~ Sift all of these ingredients together then stir until well mixed. Then cut a half cup softened organic butter into cubes and mix in with your hands until the crumbles turn into a dough~
Take part of the ball of dough and roll our between two sheets of parchment paper. If you don’t have a rolling pin use a wine bottle like me!
Once it is nice and thin, place in freezer as is for the time it takes you to make the filling.
Preheat your oven to 390 degrees before you commence on the filling.
2 Organic apples, mine were from my Mom’s garden!
1 Tsp Tumeric
2 Tblsp ground chia seed
2 tsp Arrowroot powder
2 Tsp Cinnamon
2 tsp Xylitol
1/2c Unsweetened Vanilla Almond milk
1 Tsp Vanilla
Apple core tool
~Core apples and cut them up.
Place in large bowl and add all ingredients and mix together so all apples are coated well. I know it looks weird but trust me it is so good and healthy for you! Try a little bit to make sure it has the sweetness and spice you prefer;)
Pull out the pastry mix and place the flattened dough on a pan with the parchment, take off the top layer. Spoon out filling onto half the dough, then crack or cut in the middle and fold the other half on top of the filling.
The Dough will be stiff and look awkward uncooked but it will bake up to perfection! I placed a few of the pieces on the sides of the turnover so they baked up and “sealed ” it a little more.
Place in oven of 390 degrees for about 15 minutes. Mine baked up quite fast, so check it at about 10 minutes.
While baking whip up some coconut cream with vanilla, cinnamon, and a bit of xylitol.
Let the turnover cool( I could hardly wait!) then cut into 4 pieces and serve with cream, Om nom nom! Try not to eat the whole thing;)
