clean eating, detox, food, health

Perhaps you were like me and you were a little piggy this winter? If you packed on a few lbs with indulgences and a lacklustre fitness routine then it’s time to shed the comfort zones of those fat clothes and give your body a spring-time renewal with these 6 essential spring detox tips.  If you want to feel amazing in your skin this summer, the time is now:

1. Drink 16 OZ celery juice in the AM

Celery juice has been one of those life changing habits that saved me from a life threatening digestive illness in 2017-2018.  The juice destroys the outer cell membrane of the Epstein-barr virus responsible for rashes, psoriasis, eczema, acne, all other skin issues as well as all digestive issues and many forms of chronic illness.

The dermatoxins that EBV virus create while nestling within the liver, are highly inflammatory to skin tissue, causing blemishes, fissures, cracks, scabs, flaking, scarring, bleeding, and rashes of all kinds as well as inflammation within the intestinal wall.

Celery juice helps restore your immune system to help fight off the virus. It also flushes toxins out of the liver, which is a critical support to help remove the toxic heavy metals that the virus feeds on that causes eczema and psoriasis. It also strengthen a weakened liver, which anyone has with eczema, psoriasis, skin issues, gut issues, digestive issues, chronic low grade inflammation, chronic constipation or constipation that comes and goes, and gas, bloating, belching, hormone issues and weight gain.

Personally, I drink my celery juice with one whole lemon and a big whack of ginger. The lemon, especially the peel, has powerful bioflavonoids that heal intestinal skin and strengthen stomach acid, while the ginger is an expectorant, pulling out mucus from the whole digestive tract. Drink this bad boy first thing in the AM on an empty stomach for best results.

2. Fill up on fruit

Big industry will have you think fruit is evil and causes fatty liver and weight issues but this is far from true. Fruit, like celery juice, is another one of those life changing foods that cures all.

After drinking celery juice in the am, the best thing you can do for your adrenals and liver is to have a low fat morning full of antioxidant rich fresh fruit like wild blueberries, other berries, oranges, papaya, apples, and banana, some mineral rich veggies like spinach, chard, kale and other leafy greens and superfoods like hawaiian spirulina, barley grass juice powder and atlantic dulse.

Making a smoothie bowl is a great option here as it’s a quick and easy way to get hundreds of nutrients and antioxidants to start your day without your body having to work too hard.

Here is a great recipe for an energizing, nourishing and detoxifying superfood smoothie bowl to start your day:

  • 1.5 cups frozen wild blueberries
  • 1 ripe banana
  • 1 orange
  • 2 handfuls of spinach
  • One piece of kale, leaf torn from the stalk
  • 1 tsp Hawaiian spirulina
  • 1 tsp barley grass juice powder
  • Half tsp atlantic dulse
  • 1-2 tbsp shelled hemp seed(optional)
  • Vanilla, stevia and cinnamon to taste

Blend with some coconut water and a bit of water on high for a few mins then pour into a bowl or mug and eat with a spoon(it’s better for digestion than drinking it).  Have this as your first meal when you are hungry after the first two steps.

Fruit is raw, ready to eat, full of enzymes, anthocyanins, polyphenols, antioxidants and minerals all bound to the fructose molecule which opens the cell and delivers these nutrients with ease. Fruits also deliver their emotional, energetic, and spiritual support for our minds, hearts, nervous system and our spirit, imparting their unique strength and adaptability to us deep into our cells. Eating more fruit creates better cellular membranes, well hydrated and more pliable for efficient nutrient exchange, another important factor in healing and optimal health that is often overlooked.  We will only heal to the extent our cellular membranes will allow, and a lifetime of inflammation and poor choices destroys our cells at this level. Eating lots of fruit is absolutely essential and life changing when faced with chronic stress and illness, there is nothing on the planet that does it better.

Eating these foods will assist your body’s ability to adapt to all types of stress; emotional, environmental, physical, mental, psychological, and chemical, as the foods chosen here are the most powerful.  This combination kills off viruses that create fatigue, nourishes the adrenals and detox pathways, supplies the body with important minerals, and pulls out heavy metals and inflammation from the intestinal lining.  Try doing this for a few weeks to the best of your ability and watch as you transform.

3. Just say no to high fat

Sure they are popular right now, and sure I dabbled thinking it would help me, but they were never intended to be for a long term lifestyle solution, just quick fix with serious health implications on the liver and lymph system afterwards.

When cleansing out the old it is best to lower the fat in the diet and aim for a fat free AM. The more fat you have in your blood on a daily basis, whether it comes from animal foods or plant foods, the more likely you are to develop a fatty liver. When the blood has more fat in it, the blood becomes thick, the thicker the blood, the less oxygen there is for the liver. When the liver doesn’t have enough oxygen, it suffers and can’t do its job, creating an overburdened lymph and blood system and inhibiting the body from detoxing on the daily. When blood fat is high especially chronically and over a lifetime, pathogens prosper including bacteria and viruses causing all sorts of inflammation, digestive issues, weight gain, hormone issues, skin issues, and are the true cause of most chronic illness and so-called autoimmune disease.

Opt for the smoothie bowl above in the am and lower all animal fats and proteins in the diet. If you eat animal protein, have it once a day such as lunch or dinner instead of at every meal.  Opt for healing fats such as raw avocado which soothes the intestines, and swap out butter for coconut oil which is easier on the liver and doesn’t feed EBV like butter and animal fats. If you’re a vegetarian or vegan, nix the nuts as they tend to go rancid from poor storage and shipping, and opt for some fresh raw hemp seeds on your soups and salads.

4. Spinach soup errry day

I have been eating this soup for the last several days now and man is my skin glowing!  This soup is great for your skin, weight loss, curbing cravings of all kinds, so satisfying, completely guilt free and takes 5 mins to make:

 Creamy Spinach Soup:

  • 1 pint grape tomatoes
  • 2 stalks celery

  • 2-3 garlic clove

  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 2 oranges
  • 5 cups baby spinach
  • few sprigs of cilantro

  • 1⁄4 avocado
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • herbed sea salt to taste

Blend all ingredients well aside from spinach in a food processor or blender, then add spinach at handfuls at a time, stopping to scrape down sides as needed.  Serve as is or heat on stove just until desired temp.

Raw spinach is a mineral rich superfood packed with protein, iron, beta carotene, chlorophyll, and all essential nutrients that help strengthen the immune system and keep bones and muscles strong. Raw spinach is also one of nature’s best natural laxatives, aiding in keeping the digestive tract healthy and running smoothly. Adding more fresh spinach to your daily meals will restore your energy, increase your vitality, take away your cravings and improve your frame of mind.

5. Cut out the crap

I’m talking bread, pasta, anything processed including rice cakes and vegan snacks, dairy, cane sugar, and any comfort foods you’ve been binging on that your body wants you to quit. All of these foods create excess acid in the body and lymph system, increasing inflammation and creating the perfect breeding ground for viruses and bad bacteria to fester away. Just cut it out, replace it with more fruits and more veg, and watch as your cravings disappear, your waistline shrink every day, your bloating get pooped away, and your radiant energy return.

6. Love your lymph and liver

By now you’ve probably noticed a theme here and it’s all about restoring the alkalinity of the lymph system and the strength of the liver.

If you are suffering from poor energy, weight gain, diminished digestion and any form of chronic inflammation then you need to start addressing the root of these issues and that lies in your sluggish liver and acidic lymph system.

The key is conscious consistency and choosing more fruits and veggies that support liver/lymph detox pathways such as brussels, asparagus, spinach, leafy greens, fruits esp wild blueberries, oranges, apples, celery and celery juice, sweet potatoes, squash, spirulina and barley grass juice powder, as well as implementing these powerful liver loving tools I have outlined here.

Healing your relationship with food

When faced with the temptation of not staying committed to your healing journey, instead of defaulting to to excuse making, take a pause and ask yourself  “If I really, really loved and respected myself, what would I choose to consume that is in alignment with self love and respect?”. The more you stay aligned with the virtues of self love and respect, the faster your body will reflect to you renewed health, well-being, vitality and radiance. Don’t you want that?  Heck yes you do!! Choose love and respect my friend, you deserve more love and respect right now, not tomorrow or the next day or next week or a year from now. If you take the space and create the pattern interrupt from the excuse making, you can access your healing with your choice, your alignment with your virtues, and create a new way of being within the moment.  That is where healing happens, in the now.
